2017 NCAA Final Four

This year's national semifinals of the NCAA Division I Basketball championship is all set and it features the last surviving four teams.

Unfortunately, because the Villanova Wildcats, the East #1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament were eliminated in the East Regional 2nd round by the #8 Wisconsin Badgers, 62 to 60, there will now be a new national champion of college basketball.

The remaining four teams left standing are:
* East Regional Champion: #7 South Carolina Gamecocks
* West Regional Champion: #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs
* Midwest Regional Champion: #3 Oregon Ducks
* South Regional Champion: #1 North Carolina Tarheels

So, what happened to the two #1 seeds in the East and Midwest Regional? They've been eliminated.

Throughout the First Four and the first four rounds of the NCAA tournament, here's how each of the four teams got to the Final Four.

* East Regional Champion: #7 South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks finished the regular season with a overall 22-9 record (12-6 in the SEC). As a champion of the SEC Tournament, they qualified for the NCAA Tournament representing the East Regional.

In the first round, they eliminated the #10 Marquette Golden Eagles, 93 to 73, the #2 Duke Blue Devils in the second round, 88 to 81, the #3 Baylor Bears in the regional semifinals, 70 to 50 and the #4 Florida Gators, 77 to 70.

The Gamecocks have never made it past the second round of the tournament. The last time the Gamecocks made it this far was the Sweet Sixteen was in 1973.

* West Regional Champion: #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs
The Gonzaga Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 29-1 record (17-1 in the WCC). As a champion of the WCC Tournament, they qualified for the NCAA Tournament representing the West Regional.

In the tournament, the Bulldogs eliminated the #16 South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 66 to 46 in the first round, the #8 Northeastern Wildcats, 79 to 73 in the second round, the #4 West Virginia Mountaineers, 61 to 58 in the regional semifinals and the #11 Xavier Musketeers, 83 to 69 in the regional finals.

The Bulldogs have never made it past the East Regional Final and are looking at playing for the National Champion game!

* Midwest Regional Champion: #3 Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks out of the Pac-12 Conference finished their regular season at 27-4 (16-2 in the Pac-12). As champions of the Pac-12 Conference, they were awarded a spot in the NCAA Tournament representing the Midwest Regional.

In the first round of the tournament, the Ducks ousted the #14 Iona Gaels, 93 to 77, eliminated the #11 Rhode Island Rams, 75 to 72, eliminated the #7 Michigan Wolverines in a close call, 69 to 68 and knocked out the #3 Kansas Jayhawks, 74 to 60 to reach the Final Four for the first time since 1939 when they last won a National Championship Game that year.

* South Regional Champion: #1 North Carolina Tarheels
The North Carolina Tarheels finished their regular season with a overall 26-6 record (14-4 in the ACC) and when they won the ACC championship against the Duke Blue Devils, they were awarded the #1 seed representing the South Regional.

In the tournament, the Tarheels ousted the #16 Texas Southern Tigers in the first round, 103 to 64, knocked out the #8 Arkansas Razorbacks in the second round, 72 to 65, eliminated the Butler Bulldogs in the regional semifinals, 92 to 80 and knocked out the #2 Kentucky Wildcats, 75 to 73.

The Tarheels make their 20th appearance in the Final Four and look to win their sixth national title.


This year's 79th edition of the Final Four will take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona it will host the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship Game on Monday night.

In the first national semifinal game, the Easth Regional champion, #7 South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the West Regional champion, #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs. Tip-off of the first game will be at 3:09 PM MST. In the second national semifinal game, the Midwest Regional champion, #3 Oregon Ducks will take on the South Regional champion, #1 North Carolina Tarheels. Tip-off of the second game will be at 5:49 PM MST.

The winners of the national semifinals will face off in the National Championship game Monday night with 6:10 PM MST being the tip-off time. The loser will see their season come to a disappointing end and head home for the Summer.

The national semifinals and championship games will be televised on CBS.
